Pallor
Understanding causes, symptoms, and comprehensive treatment approaches
What is Pallor?
Pallor refers to an abnormal paleness of the skin and mucous membranes. It results from a reduced amount of oxyhemoglobin (oxygen-carrying pigment) in the blood or decreased blood flow to the skin. While mild pallor can be normal in some individuals, especially those with naturally fair skin, significant or sudden pallor often indicates an underlying medical condition that requires evaluation.

What's Causing Your Pallor
Identifying the underlying causes of pallor allows us to target treatment effectively for lasting results.
Iron Deficiency Anemia
Most CommonLack of iron reduces hemoglobin production, decreasing oxygen-carrying capacity of blood.
Chronic Blood Loss
CommonOngoing bleeding from GI tract, heavy menstruation, or other sources depletes iron and blood.
Vitamin B12 Deficiency
CommonEssential for red blood cell production; deficiency impairs mature RBC formation.
Folate Deficiency
CommonSimilar to B12, folate is needed for proper red blood cell development.
Chronic Diseases
CommonConditions like kidney disease, cancer, and autoimmune diseases suppress blood cell production.
Bone Marrow Disorders
Less CommonProblems with bone marrow affect blood cell production.
Hemolytic Anemia
Less CommonPremature destruction of red blood cells leads to paleness.
