Understanding Ptosis
What is Ptosis?
Ptosis is the drooping of the upper eyelid, which can affect one or both eyes. It results from weakness, paralysis, or dysfunction of the levator muscle that raises the eyelid, or its nerve supply (oculomotor nerve). Ptosis can be present at birth (congenital) or acquired later in life due to various neurological, muscular, or mechanical causes.
