Pelvic Pain
Understanding causes, diagnosis, and treatment options
What is Pelvic Pain?
Pelvic pain is discomfort in the lowest part of the abdomen and pelvis, below the belly button. It can be acute (sudden and severe) or chronic (lasting 6 months or more). Pelvic pain can originate from any of the reproductive, urinary, or digestive organs in the pelvis, or from the muscles and connective tissues of the pelvic floor. It is a common symptom affecting both men and women, though it is more prevalent in women. The complexity of pelvic pain often requires a multidisciplinary approach for proper diagnosis and treatment.
